Caribbean beaches in Mexico suffering from seaweed infestation that lets off ‘rotten egg’ smell, president says it’s a ‘minor issue’

Nearly 621 miles of beaches have been covered by the seaweed, Rafael Ojeda, the head of the country’s navy said at the press conference, according to Reuters. He said Mexico’s government will spend $2.7 million to remove the seaweed from the beaches. Four boats and barriers funded by public funds will help collect and retain the algae from infiltrating the beaches, Ojeda said.
