Critics speak out about art in show MOCA Cleveland canceled

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Andy Warhol rocked the art world in the 1960s, when he used news photos to create iconic artworks of Jackie Kennedy in mourning and police dogs ripping clothes off Black protesters at civil rights demonstrations.

Such appropriations have become commonplace in contemporary art since then. But should there be a moral and ethical limit on an artist’s use of news or police bodycam images if it causes pain to relatives of loved ones killed through police brutality?
