A public art project based on photographs replaced the images of two black former department chiefs with white faces.

BOYNTON BEACH — Following two racially-tinged incidents involving city officials, Boynton Beach is about to take a deep look at itself.

The city commission voted Tuesday in favor of  a racial and social equity study that will last at least six months and be conducted by Florida International University. The study, which will look inside City Hall as well as the community at large, will conclude with specific policy recommendations to address issues of systemic racism and inequality.
