A major effort is underway to preserve San Diego’s African American history. It’s part of an upcoming event from the African American Museum of Fine Art called Keepers of the Culture, a celebration of prominent African Americans in the community.
The effort is also aimed at preserving historical pictures and documents for future exhibits at the San Diego History Center, including one this spring on Nathan Harrison, the first African American homesteader in San Diego in the 1850s.
