Olayinka Fagbemiro has been organizing and conducting space and astronomy education outreach programs for children in Nigeria for 11 years, with a special emphasis on girls and residents of rural communities. Her passion for encouraging students in science, especially astronomy, takes her to schools to engage students and teachers alike. Olayinka is the National Coordinator in Nigeria for both Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) and Universe Awareness (UNAWE), international organizations that focus on inspiring children through astronomy.
Olayinka has organized numerous STEM workshops and conferences for students and science teachers across Nigeria. She is involved in several advocacy programs for girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). Olayinka has also organized STEM workshops for children in refugee camps for Internally Displaced People fleeing the fundamentalist organization, Boko Haram, in part of Nigeria.
Olayinka has presented the work of her team at many International conferences, including the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), Communicating Astronomy with the Public (CAP) conferences, the African Leadership Conference on Space Science and Technology (ALC), the Coalition Of Wives Of Presidents And Vice Presidents (COWAP) 2018 African Women Summit, and many others.
