This week saw the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth, marking the day when Union Major General Gordon Granger proclaimed to the people of Texas, on June 19, 1865, that “all slaves are free” – the end of slavery in America. But it would not mean the end of oppression. Jane Pauley reports.

I've talked to alot of Black folks from all over the states about this and many had told me that it was mostly a Texas thing, that black people over there celebrate.
They've been teaching Juneteenth in home school books for decades, not so much in public schools.
I demand an Undocumented Worker's National Holiday, a Latin American Nationl Holiday, an Asian American Holiday and a Holiday for everyone else who fall under the category "Other".
I hope Trump would do the same thing. We should vote on that we should have that as a national holiday we all should petition that to happen. The beginning of no Strife in America
Juneteenth has been a state holiday in a Texas since the 1980s. As usual NYC and Democrats are late to the game.
Its most unfortunate to live in a country that will not elect
a woman with the political competency of, or the looks of a Golda Meir or
Indira Gandhi to serve us in public office, as if that’s not bad enough, we
will not even allow anyone that looks remotely like them to read the news to us
on television either. We’ll just have to continue to suffer the consequences of
the blond dyed empty heads engaging in the practice of appearance journalism…
whatever….
Just sorry to see our state our world caught up in all this 💔 ununified state of affairs..
As a retired schoolteacher who taught blacks whites yellows browns occasional greens… This is a sorrowful, shameful disgrace..
When you have to pull poor Aunt Jemima off the shelf that is the WORST.. SHAME ON ALL THOSE WHO MADE THAT DECISION 👈🏽👎
GOOD 4 U, Mayor Cuomo. 🇺🇸 That was a step in the right direction.
Wow this is the first time I have ever hear of this juneteenth and I'm a history buff
Don't expect much from Coumo, Janie – he's just an idiot.
"America must take the 'Floyd Knee' – or prepare to die!!"
Some women fight for equality in the office or workplace, no
longer have to dress to please the men, being that pretty little lady that must
be put up with, laws are passed, so what do some women do? continue to be that
pretty little lady hair dyed and greasy lipped that has to be put up with in
the office…Seemingly loving the role as an office trophy…especially when
appearing on television…
USA just got done annihilating 200,000 Muslims in this last decade alone, for wanting to leave the petrodollar and being enemies of the Israelis. All the while corporate media acted as cheerleaders. And now come election year the media has grown a heart, standing against all forms of systemic oppression, blah blah blah blah. How will any of you escape damnation?
Americans have some nerve to say USA is the greatest country in the world👎👎👎
