ASHEVILLE – Sixteen community groups are saying the unusual probation of a police officer who beat, shocked and choked a Black pedestrian should be extended because it has not met the requirements of his “restorative justice” sentence.

In an unprecedented move, the NAACP, the Racial Justice Coalition, the Residents Council serving public housing residents and other groups are asking this month to file a motion in Buncombe County Superior Court calling for the extension.
