Garvey's movement with the UNIA was before the Nation of Islam. Garvey was born in 1887. By 1918 Garvey was the president of the New York branch of the UNIA. The UNIA was established in Jamaica in 1914. This was well before the Nation of Islam. Noble Drew Ali's organization began in 1913. Garvey worked for a newspaper called the African times and Orient Review which was created by Duse Muhammad Ali in 1912. Duse Muhammad was Garvey's senior by 21 years. In 1918 Garvey began publishing the Negro World. he had corresponded with Booker T. Washington, one of the Black Star Line ships was named after Frederick Douglas. So, Garvey had various influences. There were movements before Garvey. My point is that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad received influence and ideas from sources other than Fard Muhammad. Garvey's teachings came before the Nation of Islam. It doesn't take anything away from the works of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. RACE FIRST by Tony Martin is a good read!!!
I grow up in the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s Cali. Compton, Inglewood, Watts, Oakland, LA. etc. Being black back then meant something because we where unified. The music, the culture, & the programs. We protected each other. You could not come in our hood and harm someone. It would be hell to pay; they might not make it out. We say it laud, I’m black, and I’m proud. It meant protecting the neighborhood, making sure children had breakfast before school, food for the struggling families, blankets for the cold, fans for the hot elderly. We where community. Now we as blacks are doing none of those things. Try this, read the definition of black to your child, then tell them that’s what they are. Watch the expression change, Please don’t, just saying. We NEED something to be proud of again. With action, not just words. Look up: Christian Black Codes and Casual Killing act. I LOVE MY PEOPLE. Islam.
respect to the NOI and Malcolm X..it was that group that initially helped me break the miseducationed state I was in..also shout out to Garvey and Kwame Nkrumah.. pioneers I look up too
"Aretha Franklins father Mr Franklin financed the civil rights movement and was the godfather of Aretha" really nigga I think he meant her father slept with her and was the father of her 1st 2 kids but what do I know
It would be proper to subtitle the obvious illusions this Brother has made. Marcus Garvey followed Elijah Muhammad ??? Nation of Islam wasn't started until 1930, Garvey was deported in 1927 after being released from prison. He said King was killed a few days after talking to Malcolm X ???? Malcolm was assassinated in 1965 , King was assassinated in 1968. What's sad is all these Brothers standing around without checking the misinformation ???
A CODE is defiantly needed, and accountability from all who are around OUR PEOPLE. IF you collect money from the People account for it to the People. If you exist as a church, school, business so called leader or whoever, serve the interest of the People, that goes for all gangsters or police or all these kkkrakas taking over OUR ComUNITIY. CODES are developed and approved by the PEOPLE, not a few. The idea of comUNITY watch and patrol will keep the out of order fools from violating . Talking about killing as a penalty on youtube is short of plain STUPID, or a provocateur move. Defiantly their are scores of police who have killed US that deserve some justice. ORGANIZE with INTELLIGENCE not empty wolf tickets !!!
what does black power have to say about trump while our ppl and brothers are protesting in the streets why have we organized yet why are we waiting until it's too late so we can debate about it
