Welcome back Dr. Kris Marsh she was one of the first people we brought to South Africa years ago. She is now back with a new attitude and a new book that she wants to share with us all. She has South Africa as a place she feels like is home to her. She is California native but is a professor and a demographer at University of Maryland at College Park. 1. The energy from Dr. Marsh is on steroids. Very educational episode. I learnt something new today. I didn't know someone can be a demographer. Thank you Bhut'Mark and Dr. LaTasha for bringing us Dr. Marsh. Black excellence at its best.

  2. I love this episode in a way that is making us single folks like we are being heard. thank you for sharing and what makes this also soo great is just that voices across the world are speaking their truths. Another inspiring black woman coming here with her opinion and making it known and feeling confident in herself which is what us woman. Black and proud and being woman who is not apological about who and what we are.
thank you Mark and La tasha… and what helps is that we are seeing it from our cousins and it brings a movement here and what it means on both sides… South Africans and American's… love it… sharing experiences… energy is just great and inspiring…
i love my country and love being me… just because of you… 🥰🥰

  3. Married people don’t talk about their issues? Shiiiiiidddd. If I would have listened to all the married folks I knew, or the ones speaking online, then I would have never gotten married myself LOL

  4. I'm all for choice… And women have to understand what those choices come with consequences… I won't speak for women … But I can't imagine being a women in her 30-40 with no children considering a women's biological need to nurture … Ladies your career is not going to comfort you in your older years … But you have to make your bed and lay in it

  5. Please tell her she HAS to do a guest lecture at any university in Gauteng, she is so impressive I could not stop smiling, being intrigued and inquisitive about everything she is saying. 😍

  6. I respect your work but please do not promote single-hood in Africa. It’s not part of our culture in Africa. This culture of “single-hood” and independent mindset has done incredible damage to the African American community.

  7. Thank you TRSA team for giving your guest this platform. Somewhat informative. I have to say though, Singlehood is not encouraged on these lands. We believe in finding someone to grow old with and to have your back, And not necessarily financially but mostly emotionally..,sorry about my long comment, just had to put it out there:) welcome again to SA Dr Marsh.

  8. Interesting stuff my sister.

I respect the way you think and I'm sure that you're hardly stuck with problem that you can't fix with that type of mentality. Bless

  9. Interesting and a great conversation. I find that it will be good dialogue as I think the views of "singlehood" especially in SA is so tainted by the western context. In a traditional African way of life "noone is single" as you are always part of a family system. The western way of defining a "person" and stressing on individualism can be another way to demystify this conversation and see all sides.

  10. In the context of South Africa, we've lost so many women due to Gender Based Violence by staying in relationships and marriages that were life threatening for them. The stigma around divorce and singlehood needs to be broken down. This is relevant for South Africa. For those who are saying this is an agenda to bring US women experience to promote singlehood that's BS to me. When women are empowered we all benefit. I as a guy wish my mother left that marriage that broke all of us. We need honesty, we need reflection and certainly we cannot blackmail women to stay in toxic relationships because of fragile masculinity. That I say as a man. Ndityeni ke, nditsho nangoku
