South Africa’s lockdown levels are now based on 2 criteria: Dlamini-Zuma


Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has provided further information about the country’s planned move to a level 3 lockdown from 1 June.

Presenting to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday (26 May), Dlamini-Zuma said that government’s risk-adjusted approach to the lockdown is now focused on two criteria:

  • The rate of coronavirus infections; and
  • Government’s health-system readiness.

Dlamini-Zuma said that it would also be these two criteria would determine how districts move between lockdown levels.
