Springfield city councilors call for expanded reforms to hold police accountable

SPRINGFIELD — Eight city councilors have urged a state legislative committee to expand reforms to increase accountability for police misconduct.

The councilors submitted a two-page letter to a legislative conference committee urging members to strengthen the Massachusetts Civil Rights Act pertaining to police, and to reduce legal protection for officers against civil lawsuits, known as “qualified immunity.”
