Talbot Fisher: Air battles rage in Africa, England


During the 50th week of World War II, the focus switched to East Africa as Italian forces attacked British Somaliland while Knox County celebrated its 84th annual county fair.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1940, The Register-Mail announced that “Italian forces have begun an invasion of British Somaliland, with three columns driving into that little British possession adjoining Ethiopia” on Aug. 4.
