In the wake of recent protests for racial justice, there’s been an increased focus on Juneteenth—the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. To provide more context on the June 19 commemoration, we checked in with Sherman Fairchild Distinguished Professor of History Matthew Delmont, who says it “speaks to the larger moment that we’re in right now.”
