Violin vigil held at Lee Circle to honor lives lost to police brutality

RICHMOND, Va. — A violin vigil was held Tuesday night at the Lee Monument honoring Elijah McClain and other lives lost to police violence.

Mcclain, a 23-year-old Black man, died last summer in Aurora, Colorado.

Three officers put him in a chokehold after they say he struggled with them after he was stopped for “being suspicious.”

Paramedics later sedated McClain who died days later.

Organizers of the event say they’ve been inspired by other violin vigils held across the county in recent weeks.
