I’m watching this and about to go to bed oof
Consciousness is a dynamic streaming service of information. Think YouTube++ & sensory/haptic feedback mechanisms. There is a local buffer in your brain that makes your experience of reality seamless. Your awareness or consciousness is that stream of data between the platform that we consensually identify as reality, your user object ie. your soul and the overmind database, God. Through a complex web of causal interactions your everyday experiences are streamed and processed in your brain – a very advanced transceiver.
1. Consciousness is holding the same place in the universe what it holds in my dream.
2. My dream (Including me and others, who were living in my dream) was imagined, seen and known by consciousness, which was independent of my dream.
3. The universe(Including me and others who are living in the universe) is imagined, seen and known by consciousness, which is independent of the universe.
I will keep things rather simplified in order to not require a book to explain the subject matter talked about in this video. (Though this will be lengthy regardless)
In terms of the Hemispherectomy, the anatomy of the brain needs to be taken into consideration. The brain has more than just the 2 hemispheres to its structure. It also has the midbrain, which is what the two hemispherical structures are connected to, or more accurately, grow from. Removing one of these halves would not include any of the midbrain structures, and hence would not be able to carry out function independently, since its connection to the rest of the body would be severed, as the midbrain is where the neural communication from the body (save for the cranial nerves) is transferred to and from the many structures of the brain. If the midbrain is damaged in any way, your chances of survival are essentially 0%.
If this new half was transplanted into a new host body successfully somehow, it would still need to be reconnected to a new midbrain structure system, which really calls the shots on how it behaves. The interesting thing would be that, if the new implanted brain contained formed memories that were entirely localized to that hemisphere, the memories would likely be transferred along with it.
The main trouble with this is that DNA is extremely specific, and if cells containing DNA that don't pertain to the host's DNA are suddenly implanted, those cells will get targeted by the immune system of the new host and marked for destruction. Some cells are transfusion/transplant capable thanks to an understanding of how cells are identified and communicate in the body. With that being said, even if this other half of your brain was successfully transplanted into another host, the brain that would continue to be "you" would be the half that is still connected to your original midbrain, and the transplanted brain would, over time, be converted to being accessory to the new host.
This is all assuming that we don't take into account the many, many things that would make this particularly impossible.
Another thing I would like to touch upon is that each separate hemisphere tends to exhibit its own preferences when communication between the two hemispheres, which is done through a structure called the corpus callosum, has been severed. Subtle differences such as color preference have been observed in such subjects. (On a side note, this may explain why we "talk to ourselves", and be a contributing factor to indecisiveness)
In terms of the "swampman", even if the atoms had reassembled perfectly to replicate you after the original was destroyed, the newly created person wouldn't have any of the memories that the original person had, and they would essentially be "born again", with a blank slate for a brain that would have to relearn everything that the original you learned while growing and developing, including muscular control and speech. The newly atomically assembled person, even if being a perfect clone, would still be a new person and not you, because your experiences in life have a large determining factor on who you are. They would likely develop similar interests and (objectively) personality, but still not be you.
In terms of the swapping cells one by one thing, it comes down to the previous issues stated before. depending on the speed of the transfer, the new cells would either be targeted and destroyed if they were incompatible, or simply accepted as new cells like in a transfusion or transplant if they were compatible. Once the brain is disassembled, that's pretty much it. That's the end of the person as they were known. This is because the brain would have to relearn and recreate neurological pathways in order to regain function.
What I find is a more curious question is; At what point is the thing that determines whether you exist to observe through your eyes or anyone else's eyes determined? Why, out of all life, is the host you occupy, your host?
When I was playing cleverbot as a kid they asked me who is in the illuminati, and if I don't say then my computer may get a virus? Got creeped out and made it reply to itself, turns out the computer got a virus very shortly after that happened.
"Someone call an ambulance he's unconscious!!"
Vsauce: "… Or is he?"
Where was my consciousness before my body existed
I want to change cells with you
Question: What is real?
Answer: Nothing is real

People walking around with those stupid masks and gloves aren't conscious, just plants in The matrix to help fill the earth.
When this is your university assignment 💔😭
Wait wth
Exactly like Trump supporter zombies. .
If you divide your brain into two halfs and give each half a new body, assuming both of them are (at least temporarily) you, in how many slices can you divide your brain mainting your identity?
This is what blows my mind, how powerful is GOD that HE CAN CREATE conscious beings like me LIKE HOW DID YOU CREATE ME. Its really mind blowing. I'm so curious
i made up the last word
it looks extremely retarded from every single fucking angle
edison needs to try again
i'll assume you mean a 4d mirror. continue.
No THOSE TWO BODIES WILL TAKE UP ITS OWN MEMORIES AND PERSONALITIES BECAUSE YOUR CONSCIENCE IS ALSO IMPRINTED IN THE BODY, YOUR MEMORIES AND CONSCIENCE ISN'T ALL IN THE MIND ITSELF. IF THE MIND AND PROOF OF CONSCIENCE IS "SELF AWARENESS" THEN TAKING OUT THE BRAIN AND IMPLANTING IT IN ANOTHER BODY THEN THE BRAIN WOULD HAVE ADVERSE AFFECTS BECAUSE THE UNFAMILIAR AND SELF AWARENESS IS GONE, LIKE MEMORY LOSS!
We are conscious of phenomenon. But are we conscious of consciousness? Can we observe observation?
0/10 no vsauce music
In truth, being blind wouldn't be that much different to people who can see. They have never and could never comprehend what "vision" is so in a way it doesn't make a difference.
I'm soul
If you had half your brain removed because of severe epilepsy, but later in life had half of someone else's healthy brain put in place of the piece that you lost, would you start to take on some of the personality traits of that person over time?
*from behind you*
"Heeey, Vsauce, Michael here,"
*from inside your head*
"Are you ever really safe?"
The Part where the Pineal Gland is in would be ME!
Well answer to the question at 00:34 is you would have a split personality.
ooooooh acid!
Personally i think that consciousness is a soul like no matter if you have your hand removed, or heart replaced by a mechanical one, or you lose a leg, or even half of your brain for that matter, you are still you, and even if you donate half your brain to someone else, even if that person survives and continues to live, you don’t change that person being that person, that person is still that person, just with a different organ, same as if they got a mechanical heart instead of the real one.
This was a very fascinating video! great content! to learn even more about this topic, check out why people get spiritual experiences and how it is connected with Consciousness https://abundance7.com/reason-behind-spiritual-experiences/
What about spirituality? Such a topic and didn’t even touch on a subject of Buddha and many traditions which originate from the exploration of consciousness…
From where do you get all these questions?!!
Cut out the music.
Higher than tits right now…
You don't know so why you making a video on it, nobody knows what it is nor never will.
Now everyone is up to thier opinion, but what i think is maybe the only reason consciousness exist's at all is because we are the only species that can talk right so if we are the only species that can speak in full tounges and the entire species can understand eachother (for the most part) then that should mean that maybe were the only species with a consciousness because when you think about it your concoiusness is just your voice that says things in its mind, and since animals can't speak to eachother (by this i mean facing eachother eyes focused and somehow speaking to eachother in the form of animal noises) or else it would be obvious, but they don't communicate with eachother, so they just make noises, and live out there lives but completely unaware unlike us, animals are basically living oragnisms that don't have a conscious and just live out its life until it dies which means that "consciousness" could be something that just applies to us in this universe and maybe only us, we could be completely alone in our universe. Ya never know.
Don't know. I kept trying to find, then gave up and now spend my time trying to expunge it.
Would we be able to perform a hemispherectomy on two children and then once fully developed combine both halves back together inside one child to create a super brain?
What if it was provable that your consciousness can leave your body and move to other parts of the globe in mere seconds. What if your consciousness could go into another persons experience, maybe somebody that you love or care about. What if, during this experience, you could look out with their eyes, feeling their emotions. Where would one say consciousness might be? Where can I get more information grounded in that belief? What school of thought is this from?
I had this experience and the next day I talked to the person and described their environment/clothing/and feelings. They sent me photos (Extremely unique activity and environment) which authenticated my experience.
Im not saying this to get any type of attention or brag. It was not me, it was an experience given to me by the Universe anyway. I'm simply looking for some direction to ponder. Any guidance much appreciated.
Consciousness is experiencing and understand youre surroundings which occurs as your brain processes information when you are conscious.
I love to explore consciousness. For example and I know this is a little off topic… understanding the world we live in. We all know what 3D means but to understand 3 dimensional space is quite simple as it's the world and existence we perceive and understand… yet to understand a 2 dimentional space is also quite easy to grasp. It it like the screen you are reading this comment on, the words you are reading are 2 dimensional as it's flat. Ever wondered what the 1 dimension is? To me, how I see it, is like saved data on a pc or to others, our "soul" or consciousness. It's not a physical thing yet it's real… That is a one dimensional space. Ever wondered what a 4 dimensional space would look like? Take a high dose of mushrooms or dmt and the realm is like seeing it all, everything from every angle at once. You come back understanding so much it's mad. So hard to explain but incredible to experience. I find consciousness absolutely fascinating. It's insane how we are so conscious yet so hard to grap it is essentially impossible. The mind is incredible… how do we even know we exist? How do we know anything is real? It's like the tree falling in the woods. Did it make a sound? If there was no consciousness to percieve it, how is it real? That then leads me to wonder how the hell any living creature even exists or how anything at all exists. What the f… am i on about…. umm, does anyone get what im trying to say? Some people would say I sound insane but I truely believe it's just a higher state of consciousness. WHERE AND WHY?! That always baffles me
I'm pretty sure that just goes to show that we're all the same thing. Like we're like Play-Doh. When someone molded us individually out of the same material.
The background music is so loud and annoying.
0:54 I did this as a child many times. Mind blowing
