TThe Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Northern Cape is pushing ahead with its planned march to Premier Dr. Zamani Saul’s offices later this month to raise their dissatisfaction about the existence of Orania in the province.
A meeting between the EFF, the Orania Movement, and Freedom Front Plus on Friday failed to reach consensus. The EFF is calling for a review of the government’s stance on the self-determination of Orania.
The party says Black people and White people should be able to live alongside each other while preserving and observing their cultures.
The Orania Movement, together with the FFPlus, met with the EFF’s provincial leadership. This after the EFF had vowed to push the provincial and national governments to reconsider its position on the existence of Orania and that it should be discontinued.
The party says Oranis’s existence weakened unity in the country.

Why is Orania being targeted even though for decades there has been land areas which are openly designated for black people only, such as the Ingonyama Trust, the biggest private landowner in South Africa, which is a land trust in KwaZulu-Natal designed to manage communal land for the benefit of the Zulu people only. Not that I have a problem with the Trust itself, but I just want to compare the two to expose the hypocrisy of the anti-Orania people.
The land in this trust is 2.8 million hectares in size, which is 350 times bigger than Orania's 8000 hectares. Ingonyama Trust employs less than 50 people out of the millions of Zulus living there and creates zero profit or food from commercial farming, although it is some of the most arable land in South Africa. Therefore it generates very little income taxes for South Africa. However, the Trust does receive millions of Rands from mining and forestry companies but pays no taxes on that income. The Trust even receives an annual subsidy – in 2018 it was R18 million (untaxed) – from government (who uses other people’s taxes to pay this subsidy).
Orania on the other hand employs 100% of its 3000 inhabitants and commercially produces pecan nuts, corn, milk and more on about 7000 hectares of semi-desert land, which does not only feed South Africans, but generates taxes for the country and on top of that, international income from exporting the pecan nuts to China.
But you know. Abuse the race card again, and call Orania bad… But if you haven’t noticed, both the apartheid & race cards have expired, so move on and come up with real arguments that make real sense and lead to real solutions; for all.
