GANGGANG builds toward fourth annual BLACK: A Festival of Joy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — GANGGANG is laying the groundwork—literally and figuratively—for the fourth annual BLACK: A Festival of Joy, and they’re inviting the entire city to help build it, one brick at a time.

Since its debut in 2022, the celebration of Black culture, creativity, and community has grown from 1,500 attendees to more than 10,000. This rapid growth is more than just a number: It’s a testament to what organizers call a movement of joy, resilience, and unity rooted in Indianapolis.

Now, through their newly launched Brick by Brick Fund, GANGGANG is tapping into the collective power of community investment to secure resources that will support and sustain the free festival.

“This isn’t charity—it’s community architecture,” said Nigel Long of GANGGANG. “This initiative invites individuals, small businesses, and organizations to contribute at any level. Every brick purchased helps ensure the festival’s growth as a space where Black culture thrives, unapologetically.”

The fund’s first major supporter, Witherspoon Presbyterian Church—one of Indianapolis’ historic Black congregations—was honored as the inaugural Keystone Champion, purchasing a commemorative brick and setting the tone for other institutions to join in building a lasting legacy.

There are three levels of giving that allow supporters to fund bricks and join the movement:

  • Keystone Champion – $1,500: Supporting long-term sustainability and growth.
  • Cornerstone Supporter – $750: Reinforcing the mission’s core structure.
  • Foundation Builder – $500: Creating a base for future impact.

Even those unable to purchase a brick can still play a part. Organizers encourage donations of any amount—$5, $10, or whatever someone can give—stressing that every contribution helps keep the festival free and accessible to the community.

BLACK: A Festival of Joy is more than a one-day event—it’s a living, breathing platform for Black joy to flourish in the heart of Indianapolis.
