FOX23 spoke with State Senator Regina Goodwin at the event on Friday, who talked about what it means to hold the event on Black Wall Street.
“What it means is that everybody understands the rich history that is Black Wall Street, that is Greenwood, and for folks to come home, to come to Greenwood means a tremendous amount,” she said.
“This remains part of American history, part of our world history, but particularly, what we’re saying when we gather here is, ‘We remember our ancestors, we remember what happened here, we know that there was a massacre,” Goodwin added.
She said the event supports the mission to lengthen the legacy of Black Wall Street.
“It’s very important on this particular day that folks ride in on their motorcycles, saying that we’re going to keep our history rolling, we’re going to keep the legacy rolling and we could not be more pleased than to see all that have come on this day, on this street which is the historic Greenwood, in the area we know as Black Wall Street,” Goodwin said.
Goodwin said she encourages Tulsans to attend the 2025 Black Wall Street Rally this weekend.
“When it comes to Black Wall Street, it’s not just words but it is an idea, it’s a concept, and it is something that we will continue in terms of who we are and how we support businesses, but particularly Black-owned businesses and understanding that it takes all of us to make Tulsa great,” she said.
FOX23 also spoke with Marcus Bowlin on the Event Team.
“Today is an opportunity for people in the community to come together to really celebrate, learn the history of Greenwood, known as Black Wall Street to many,” he said.
Bowlin said the focus of this year’s event is paving a way forward.
“We really want to be a part of the regeneration of Greenwood,” he said. “We have a lot of exciting things coming into Tulsa, and really want to partner with them to be a part of the economic development, empowerment and also financial enrichment.”
Bowlin said holding this event in the historic Greenwood District is like no other.
“There’s many prosperous Black communities throughout America, but there’s really only one Black Wall Street,” he said.
He said the public can help by supporting the event.
