As Guyana’s oil sector booms, so do its growing pains



Guyana stands out among South American countries thanks to its abundant rainforests that double as carbon sinks, capturing more carbon dioxide than the country emits, according to tracking conducted by the federal government.

But with a 2020 boom in the country’s oil sector similar to those experienced in Alberta, observers are signalling major labour shortages that will make it difficult to improve infrastructure.
