House of Black Cat Magic

Located in West Asheville on Haywood Road, House of Black Cat Magic is half metaphysical supply shop and half black cat lounge.

Co- owner Hannah Sobolewski had this to say about the venue:

The black cat lounge is specifically a spot where people can meet adoptable cats. Most of the time they are black…they can be tuxedos, they can be tortoise shells. House of Black Cat Magic partnerships with Binx’s Home for Black Cats, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

“Cats have a long history of being considered mystical and magical companions so combining magic supplies with cats is a no-brainer,” co- owner Star Bustamante told News 13.

They currently have over 12 adoptable black cats and kittens in the lounge.

Sobolewski adds, “Their kind of mystery adds to the black-cat bias.”

Sobolewski approached the lack of black cat adoptions like any business owner…through marketing…trying to find the perfect customer to adopt these cats.

“I started thinking about black cats, and witches and people that are more secular tend to have less bias against things like black cats and broken mirrors. So I decided to try to mix the two and see if maybe I could get my cats out to the people that might really appreciate them,” Sobolewski said.

The HBCM is celebrating its second anniversary on June 8. Over the business’s two-year run, over 500 cats have been adopted out. For more information go to the House of Black Cat Magic website.
