FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A large crowd briefly gathered outside the caution tape in a Herndon, Virginia, residential neighborhood on Monday—the reason: a black bear spotted in a tree after it had roamed the community moments before.
Hours later, after it climbed another tree, the bear was tranquilized and taken away by Fairfax County and Virginia animal services.

Herndon police confirmed the bear, which is wearing a tracking collar, was spotted near Alabama Drive and Hillwood Court. The bear reportedly climbed into an area tree as of around 2:50 p.m., Herndon police officials said.
7News captured the bear leaving the tree at around 5 p.m., before running further into the community. It happened shortly after law enforcement told the crowd to disperse.
Moments later, the bear climbed another tree in the same block, but was tranquilized shortly after. 7News cameras caught the bear walking around briefly before it fell asleep, shortly before 7 p.m.
Officers said Fairfax County Animal Control and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources are monitoring the bear’s movements.
