Black bear captured after spotted roaming downtown Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A black bear that was spotted roaming downtown Anchorage late Thursday morning has been tranquilized and captured.

Anchorage police were seen near the corner of West 8th Avenue and A Street — near the Federal Building — as a small black bear was seen in the foliage surrounding the building.

A reporter at the scene observed law enforcement officials working to contain the bear and remove it from the scene.

Around noon, the bear was seen being tranquilized by a crew and put into a holding container in a truck.

A call to an Anchorage Fish and Game official had not been answered.
