The Black Mountain Police Department discovered a body while conducting an investigation June 16, according to a news release from the town.
The body was found “late in the evening hours … in the area” of the Hemphill property between Old. U.S 70 and Interstate 40, according to the release.
“At this time, we believe this is an isolated incident and there is no known threat to the public or surrounding community,” the news release said. “While we are not ruling out foul play, it does not appear foul was the cause of death based on the preliminary findings.”
Black Mountain News has reached out to the Police Department for additional information.
The Black Mountain Police Department has requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Office of the Medical Examiner “out of an abundance of caution.”
The release said no additional details regarding the identify or circumstances will be released at this time “due to the sensitivity of the investigation and the importance of properly notifying next of kin.”
“We recognize the public’s interest in this situation and understand that speculation may occur,” the release said. “However, we ask for patience and respect as we work through the investigative process. Again, based on all information currently available, we remain confident this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the safety of the community.”
