BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (WLOS) — A deceased person was found by law enforcement during an investigation in Black Mountain on Monday evening, the Black Mountain Police Department announced Tuesday.
The body was discovered near the “Hemphill Property,” located between Old U.S. Highway 70 and I-40, the police department confirmed.
Police said they have not ruled out foul play, but preliminary findings indicate that it does not appear foul play was the cause of death.

The Black Mountain Police Department said this incident is believed to be isolated and poses no threat to the public.
The department said it requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Office of the Medical Examiner, per standard procedures.
No further details about the individual’s identity have been released due to the sensitivity of the investigation and the need to notify next of kin, police said.
