HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — On the night of June 29, Hendersonville residents reported seeing black smoke rings in the sky.
Several photos and videos were posted on social media, and there were also photos sent in to News 13’s Chime In.
Monica Stancato sent in photos with this caption: “Seen this evening after loud booms; saw two planes circling, around 9PM, what is this??”

Another viewer, Bonnie Cathers, also sent in photos of the rings. She said, “This was seen over south Hendersonville airport at approximately 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 29.”
While there may have been concerns about the reported smoke rings and with the reported loud boom, it turns out there is nothing to worry about, according to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

“A lot of those photos have been making the rounds on Facebook and TikTok, but the rings are just from certain fireworks…nothing to be concerned about,” a spokesperson from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office told News 13 on June 30.
As far as the official fireworks, the city’s will be shooting off around 9 p.m. on July 4 as part of Hendersonville’s 4th of July Celebration, which begins at 5 p.m. at the Historic Henderson County Courthouse stage. The city said in the release that the best places to view the fireworks will be at the South end of Main Street near the Visitors Center or in the downtown avenues.
