The nonprofit news organization The War Horse is accepting applications for a free writing seminar for black veterans, taking place in Texas in October.
The War Horse, which works to elevate veteran voices and stories in public discourse, hopes to encourage black military members and veterans to use their writing skills to share their perspectives and shine a light on the discrimination they may face.
“Black men and women […] historically have received unequal treatment in jobs and promotions in the military, face deeper hardships when they become veterans, and have often been overlooked in the nation’s historical record and narratives about military life,” the event website says. “Their voices deserve to be heard—not only to set the record straight but also to enrich our collective understanding of war, sacrifice, resilience, and community.”
Applications are being accepted through July 27.
