The Black Experience is happening Friday, Aug. 1 and Saturday, Aug. 2.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Next weekend, “The Black Experience” will be back in Grand Rapids with the goal of highlighting Black-owned businesses, sharing community resources and “spreading Black Joy.”
The family-friendly event is being hosted by Black Impact Collaborative, an organization that provides support and resources to the Black community in Grand Rapids.
The Black Experience kicks off with an all-Black attire party complete with a best-dressed contest. Each ticket includes food and one drink ticket. Guests can look forward to live music from For Your Soul Entertainment, prizes and more.
The main conference is happening Saturday with a business expo and guest speakers. This gives Black-owned businesses a chance to network and connect with customers. Maggie Anderson, who was former Congressman John Lewis’ aide, will be the keynote speaker.
The event has plenty for kids, too! The Kids’ Corner, available from noon to 4 p.m., will be ready with healthy snacks, workshops, games and more. Kids can enjoy everything from face painting to hands-on projects to a bounce house.
“Our primary goal of the Black Experience is to cultivate community healing in the black community by promoting intellectual, cultural, and thoughtful leadership and innovation in the areas of education, economics, health and well-being, serving our elders, and ensuring protection,” said Dallas Lenear, board chair of Black Impact Collaborative. “We can let you know that this will be a Family-friendly weekend for not only for Black Greater Grand Rapids, but for everyone. However, we know that it is essential that we elevate Black Joy – things that inspire, supports and uplifts Black Culture. This is an event that will do that.”
The Black Experience is happening Friday, Aug. 1 and Saturday, Aug. 2. Ticket prices vary on which events you plan to attend. The conference is $5 each for adults. Click here for more information or to get your tickets.
