CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Families filled the streets of the Westhaven neighborhood for a day full of food, music, and connection.
Westhaven Community Day is all about celebrating unity and uplifting residents through fun and free resources, including health screenings and school supplies.
The event brought together local groups, city leaders, and nonprofits all focused on strengthening the bond between neighbors and supporting youth.
“Seeing the togetherness, I think stuff like that is important, especially in the Black community, because we’re broken apart so much, and every day, it seems like you have to try a little bit harder,” said Naundi Cook, who attended the event with her two daughters.
Organizers say events like this help build stronger communities, one smile at a time.
“We need to reach out, and we just need to bring out resources so they can know hey if I need this I go here if I need that I go there and let people know that they care,” said Shonda Steppe & Melissa Carter with Beauty for Ashes Women’s Ministry.
