FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) -Around 1:56 a.m. on Sunday, 20-year-old Tyrque Jones allegedly shot three individuals, killing one of them — identified as Azeem Holmes — in downtown Fargo.
According to a Fargo Police Department press conference, Jones fled the scene on foot and has not yet been located. Authorities say he is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, do not approach him. Instead, contact Fargo Police immediately.
This latest act of violence has sparked strong emotions and growing concern within the community.
Fargo resident Lao Buckner witnessed the altercation prior to the shooting. He expressed frustration and grief, stating:
“We need to stop this Black-on-Black crime. We need to tighten up, for real. As Indigenous people to this land, we shouldn’t be hurting each other — we should be coming together and building community to lift ourselves up. We’ve already been beaten down by others and ourselves. It’s getting out of control. We need to tighten up, be better as people, and learn how to communicate.”
Fargo Police say an ongoing feud between the individuals may have led to the shooting, though the exact motive remains unknown.
As more details emerge, members of the Black community are calling for an end to Black-on-Black crime and a renewed focus on preventing gun violence. Many are urging young people to resolve conflicts through conversation — not violence.
