WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – It’s a busy week for President Donald Trump.
He hinted at a possible “big announcement on autism” coming Monday, saying, “It’s going to be one of the most important things that we will do.” The comments came as he delivered remarks at the American Cornerstone Institute Founder’s Dinner Saturday night.
Also on Monday, the president will travel to New York for the 80th United Nations General Assembly. Trump says his goal for the upcoming meetings is “world peace.”
This comes soon after the Senate confirmed former Congressman and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz to be the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations on September 19th.
When Trump returns to Washington, he’ll welcome Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the White House. The last time Erdogan was at the White House was back in 2019, during Trump’s first term in office.
The meeting comes as the nations continue ongoing trade and military negotiations.
Also this week, despite Congress being on recess, the Congressional Black Caucus is holding its annual legislative conference beginning Wednesday. According to its website, the conference will focus on issues impacting African Americans and the global Black community. Events last from September 24th through the 28th.
Though Congress will be on recess, eyes will still be on lawmakers as they look to pass legislation avoiding a government shutdown.
Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and his house counterpart Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) demanded Trump meet with them ahead of the September 30th deadline. The president declined.
