Candlelight Vigil to Honor Local Homicide Victims in the Black Hills – Rapid City South Dakota news, weather, sports

Rapid City, S.D. – National Day of Remembrance is on September 25th. It has been around since 2007. That date marks the murder of Lisa Hullinger while studying abroad back in 1978. The day is intended to honor those who were killed by homicide. While also raising awareness, acknowledging crime, and building community.
Locally in Rapid City, there will be a candlelight vigil in honor of those victims. At 6:30 p.m. on the west lawn of the Pennington County Courthouse. Everyone is welcome to come, but family and friends of murder victims are especially encouraged to come. Those family and friends are also asked to bring a photo of loved ones who were murdered; this is optional, of course, though. “We encourage people to bring pictures of their loved ones. We’ll have candles, music, and a few speakers.” Katy Urban, the Public Information Officer with the Pennington County States Attorney’s Office, said.
The event consistently fosters a sense of community every year. Building a sense of community. “They all have this connection, right? And I think some of them have stayed connected since that time.” Katy Urban added.
