MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The 17th annual Black Women’s Wellness Day kicked off all day Saturday at the Monona Terrace.

Hosted by the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness, the event looks to inspire and empower black women of all ages to live healthy, wellness-centered lives.

Speakers from across the country, breakout sessions, line dancing and music were just some of the ways this year’s theme of “Rest and Resilience” was shared with attendees.

Gabe Doyle is the chief health initiatives officer for the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness. He pointed out some of the disparities the Black community faces in Dane County, including housing, health care, and food security.

Doyle said he wants Black women and their families to have everything they need to thrive.

“Black women for far too long have been pushed into the margins,” he said. “Today is really a signal to this community and far beyond that Black women matter, and Black women deserve to feel free and to thrive.”
