Following last weekend’s deadly shooting in Montgomery, lawmakers across the state are condemning Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed and his leadership abilities.
During a conversation on Friday’s episode of “The Dale Jackson Show,” one of the legislators critical of the mayor, State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-Decatur), did not hold back in his assessment of Reed, noting the mayor’s flagging support in the city.
“I talked to people in Montgomery, residents, be they from the black community or white community,” Orr told Jackson. “There is such a displeasure and readiness for him to get out of public office. It’s getting palpable down there with the frustration with him and his do-nothing administration.”
“People are ticked and this could be the spark that changes things. He’s got a couple more years in office, but people are angry with him,” he added.
Orr spoke to the unwavering loyalty Reed has enjoyed from the majority of Montgomery’s black community.
“That is changing,” the legislator said. “People I talked to, I think they’ve had enough and they’re waking up to how they’ve got a very inept and ineffective leader in the mayor’s office. Again, their hands are tied because they’ve got a couple more years in this term, but there’s some real anger and frustration.”
“Mayor Reed is certainly living on borrowed time with this until he finishes out this term,” Orr added.
