Representation is not the same as power. Black communities can have leaders who reflect them, but if people still lack access to healthcare, housing, education, or safety from police violence, that representation changes nothing.
Structural and policy decisions at the state and national level shape our lives, and history shows even well-intentioned efforts are often blocked or dismissed as dangerous. True power comes from organizing, speaking out, and holding systems accountable to ensure our communities are protected and supported.
