As D.C. area educators prepare for the Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action (February 2–6, 2026), they are creating empowering spaces for collaboration, reflection, and action. These gatherings offer educators the opportunity to connect with one another, share strategies, and explore how to bring reousources offered by Teaching for Change and partner organizations into their classrooms and communities.
Aligned with this year’s featured guiding principles, Globalism and Loving Engagement, we are reminded that we are part of a global Black family, united in the ongoing struggle for education, justice, and liberation. In these challenging times, we are invited to lead with courage, compassion, and truth, while creating space for authentic connection. Together, we honor our shared commitment to build communities grounded in love, interdependence, and collective care.
If you are not a D.C. area educator, we encourage you to join the movement by signing up through the National Black Lives Matter at School.

All pre-K–12th grade D.C. area educators are invited to participate in a planning meeting for the annual D.C. Area Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action. We will review and share resources for lessons and activities for uplifting Black Lives Matter at School during the Week of Action and beyond. Participants will network with peers from the D.C. metro area during community-building activities like trivia and share-outs about past ways folks have engaged in the Week of Action. Everyone will leave with a free book of their choice from our selection of elementary and YA books related to the 12 Black Lives Matter principles and Black history. Learn more.

Join us for an online curriculum fair featuring interactive workshops that uplift the guiding principles and demands of the Black Lives Matter at School movement. These principles focus on improving the educational experiences of Black students by centering Black joy, confronting anti-Blackness, and fostering authentic partnerships with all who work toward creating equitable school communities across the nation. From February 2–6, 2026, Teaching for Change’s D.C. Area Educators for Social Justice, D.C. area educators, and community members will collaborate on the ninth annual D.C. Area Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action. This local week of action built on the momentum of past years’ successful weeks of action and the National Black Lives Matter at School Year of Purpose campaign in cities across the U.S. to promote a set of national demands based in the Black Lives Matter guiding principles that focus on liberation and racial justice in education for Black youth, educators, and all youth of color.
