Fallen veterans honored at wreath laying ceremony


Across the nation, wreaths were laid on the graves of veterans at over 5,600 cemeteries, with Black Mountain being one of those sites.

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that honors the legacy and sacrifice of the men and women who served.

News 13 spoke with veteran and site coordinator Gary Aiken on the meaning behind the day.

“As a Vietnam veteran, I have friends that are intermed here. It means a tremendous amount to me. Just an Acknowledgement of the sacrifice that was made and the price of freedom,” Aiken said.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, the organization has its “Wreaths Out” event, where they remove the wreaths.
