Eden Prairie youth in kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to participate in the city’s Black History Month “Words in Action” contest, with submissions accepted through Jan. 20.
Participants are asked to select a quote from a Black American civil rights leader and express what it means to them through writing, visual art, audio or video work. Entries should reflect on the importance of the words and identify ways participants can help carry forward the leaders’ legacies through individual or community action.
The contest is open to students who live in Eden Prairie or attend school in the city. Submissions are accepted in two categories: kindergarten through grade 8 and grades 9 through grade 12. Each participant may submit one entry in a single format.
Up to four winners will receive $75 cash prizes, with up to four honorable mentions receiving $50. Winners and honorable mentions will be recognized at the Feb. 10 City Council meeting and featured on the city’s website and social media platforms.
Cash prizes are funded by the Eden Prairie Community Foundation.
Full contest guidelines and submission instructions are available on the city’s website.
