CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The Carolinas Panthers will bring a new look to the playoffs when they host the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.
For the first time in franchise history, the Panthers will wear black jerseys, black pants and black socks in a playoff game.
The team will wear silver helmets to cap the ‘fit.
The Panthers did wear black jerseys and black pants once in the playoffs before — in the divisional round against the 49ers in January 2014 — but wore blue socks that day.
Carolina wore the silver-black-black-black combo only one time in the regular season, and it didn’t go so well. That came on Nov. 9 against the Saints, when the Panthers lost 17-7.
The Panthers wore a similar combination on Dec. 21 in a big win over the Buccaneers, but wore black helmets in that game.
Carolina beat the Rams in silver helmets, black jerseys and black socks on Nov. 30, but wore silver pants in that matchup.
Saturday’s uniform combo got mixed reactions among fans, judging by social media comments.
Some fans wanted the team to wear all white, as the Panthers are undefeated in the classic threads at home in the playoffs. Others simply liked the look of the (almost) blackout.
“Already beat ‘em once in black, let’s do it again,” one fan commented, referencing the Panthers’ earlier win over the Rams.
“Wearing black to the Rams’ funeral 😮💨,” another fan wrote. “BRING IT HOME MEN.”
The Rams had not shared their uniform plans as of this writing.
Carolina was a big 10.5-point underdog ahead of Saturday’s game, but that’s nothing new. All eight of the Panthers’ regular-season wins in 2025 came as an underdog.
Kickoff for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST on Fox. WBTV will stream both pregame and postgame coverage online, on the WBTV News app, and on the WBTV Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire apps.
