BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (WLOS) — During renovation work at White Horse in Black Mountain, a portion of a wall section in the former ticket booth unexpectedly collapsed on Jan. 21.
According to the Black Mountain Fire Department, there were no injuries reported in the accident.
The fire department reported that the incident happened at approximately 10 a.m.

White Horse also sent out a news release about the incident, reporting that a private contractor was performing structural work when the collapse happened.
During the early stages of renovation work at White Horse, a portion of a wall section in the former ticket booth area came down unexpectedly. We are grateful to report that no one was injured, and there was no risk to the public.
“Within moments, the Black Mountain Fire Department responded quickly and professionally, providing immediate support and coordination,” White Horse said in its release. “White Horse extends it’s sincere thanks to Fire Marshal Doug Morrow, Fire Chief John Coffey, and Building Inspector Rick Burton for their leadership, calm presence, and close collaboration on site. Their responsiveness and care ensured the situation was thoroughly assessed and handled with clarity and confidence.”

The fire department said the building was evacuated as personnel examined and assessed the situation. A partial roadblock was also set up on Montreat Road. The traffic is being directed by the Black Mountain Police Department, which is asking motorists to find an alternative route for the next several hours.
White Horse said that out of an abundance of caution, North Carolina Urban Search and Rescue was also engaged to assist in evaluating the structure and confirming the area was secure.
