GUIDE: Northeast Ohio events celebrating Black History Month in 2026


3News has compiled a list of events happening around Northeast Ohio that honor and celebrate Black History Month.

CLEVELAND — Black History Month is officially here, and Northeast Ohio has many ways to celebrate throughout the month of February. 

Throughout the weeks ahead, many organizations in Northeast Ohio will celebrate and honor the contributions and impacts Black people have made in America. 

3News has compiled a list of ways to celebrate Black History Month, which you can see below. As more events are announced, 3News will update this list.

Cuyahoga County 

Cleveland Museum of Art: Black Art History Tour

CMA says: Celebrate Black History Month with guided tours highlighting African American artists in the museum’s collection. The museum celebrates Black History Month in February and all year round. Learn about African American artists in the museum’s collection in daily guided tours and Art and Conversation tours.

The national annual Frederick Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon harnesses volunteer hours to make primary documents from Black American History more accessible to people around the world.

Loganberry will be broadcasting the YouTube transcription tutorial so you can bring your laptop or tablet and join community members in real time to preserve and share Black History. Come when you can, leave when you must.

Feb. 24: Innovators of Black History Vol. 1 – This documentary covers the legacy, inventions, and stories of Black innovators like Benjamin Banneker, George Washington Carver, and Lewis Latimer.

Howard Street and Beyond: A History of Jazz in Northeast Ohio

ASCPL says: Akron has been a hub for jazz in the Midwest since the 1930s. Its location between major cities like New York and Chicago made it an ideal stop for traveling musicians. Legends such as Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald performed here, while a thriving local scene took root—its influence is still felt today.

Historian and writer Rose Vance-Grom will explore the origins, places, and figures that shaped Akron’s vibrant business and entertainment district and its lasting impact on Northeast Ohio’s jazz legacy. She holds a Master of Arts in Applied History from the University of Akron and is a fourth-generation Akronite. She grew up listening to her father play jazz and later took up the saxophone herself.
