MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — The Mentors Project of Bibb County is doing a Macon-Bibb Black History Downtown Heritage Walk to celebrate legacy, learning and leadership.
The Mentors Project of Bibb County’s mission is to provide caring, consistent adult role models for students needing extra support.

The Macon mentor project said, in celebration of Black History Month, the mentor project is putting on an interactive experience designed to immerse local students in the stories that shaped Macon’s African American heritage.
The event will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Tubman Museum, 310 Cherry St., Macon.
According to the Macon mentor project, participants will embark on a walking journey through Macon’s historic downtown, highlighting key sites of Black creativity, resilience, and community impact.
There will also be a drumming workshop and a museum tour at the Tubman Museum before proceeding to the Douglas Theatre to explore contribution to Black performing arts.
From there, they will continue along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Poplar Street, learning the history of local slave markets. The walk concludes at the Otis Redding Center for the Arts, where students will enjoy a live, hands-on musical experience before sharing a community lunch at the newly opened Rosa Parks Square.
A local artist, educator and cultural ambassador, Vinson Muhammad d will serve as the Master of Ceremonies, guiding participants through a day of reflection, rhythm, and remembrance.
The Mentors Project invites community members, parents, and volunteers to join this meaningful event as guides, supporters, or storytellers.
