WilmingtoNColor hosts annual Black History Month carnival in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – WilmingtoNColor held its annual Black History Month carnival at Chow Town, a downtown Wilmington food truck park.

Attendees played games including cornhole and basketball. Children participated in a bounce house and received balloon animals. The event also featured food options, music by DJ Bigg-B, and vendors.

A tour bus stationed outside the venue provided Black history education to passengers as part of the event.

One attendee said community support for the event was meaningful.

“I think in today’s society it’s important to show up, especially knowing that African-Americans are the founding individuals that have established the world we live in today,” Lillian Barfield said. “Especially all the creativeness as well as how they contribute to the economy and I just want to make sure everyone understands our history and also how we can connect in the community to do things that move forward in the future,” Lillian Barfield said.
