THE EVENT KICKED OFF A VIBRANT WEEKEND OF CREATIVITY AND CULTURE AT NORTON HEALTHCARE SPORTS AND LEARNING CENTER. IT WAS STARTED LAST YEAR BY SADIQA REYNOLDS, AND THE TWO DAY EVENT SHOWCASES THE CREATIVITY OF BLACK ARTISTS THROUGH LIVE MUSICAL PERFORMANCES, VISUAL ART AND OF COURSE, COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS. BUT IT ALSO AIMS TO HELP SMALL MINORITY BUSINESSES GENERATE REVENUE FROM THE $60 BILLION GLOBAL ART INDUSTRY. CULTIVATE THE SPACE BECAUSE WE DIDN’T HAVE A SPACE. The second annual Artists and Afros kicked off Saturday for a vibrant weekend of creativity and culture at Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.Started in 2024 by Sadiqa Reynolds, the two-day event showcases the creativity of Black artists through live musical performances, visual art, and community connections. In its inaugural year, the event features the work of 30 artists, welcoming all forms of visual art, from photography and paintings to sculptures and handcrafted jewelry. Over 1,000 people attended the inaugural event, and in its second year, organizers hope to bring even more. Art displayed at the event is available for purchase, with all profits going directly to the hands of the artists. Jazz musician The Erica Denise will be performing at the event. Refreshments will be available.Sponsored by Louisville Visual Art, Okike, Speed Art Museum, Louisville Urban League, and other local organizations, the weekend-long celebration offers guests a chance to experience and support local artistry. Artists and Afros will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and will take place in west Louisville’s The Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center, at 3029 Muhammad Ali Boulevard, Louisville.
