DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Iowa Black Doula Collective is holding a community baby shower for expecting BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) families in the Quad Cities.
The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Lincoln Center in Davenport (318 E. 7th St., Suite 112) from 1 to 3 p.m. It will include educational workshops on topics like prenatal care and breastfeeding, giveaways of essential baby items donated from the community and networking for local expecting families.
“We want Black families to not only survive but thrive. Our mission is to provide Black birthing families with the support and resources they need to overcome systemic barriers, while also finding joy, healing and prosperity,” Ebonie Baily with the Iowa Black Doula Collective said in a press release.
All BIPOC parents who are six months postpartum are invited along with their loved ones, and admission is free.
