As Minneapolis prepares for its next mayoral election, residents are invited to take part in a community-driven event that places people—not politics—at the heart of the conversation.
The African American Leadership Forum (AALF) will host A Mayoral Forum for Minneapolis’ Future on Wednesday, October 15, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Capri Theater, 2027 W. Broadway Ave., Minneapolis.
Confirmed participants include Mayor Jacob Frey, State Senator Omar Fateh, Brenda Short, and Rev. Dewayne Davis.
Unlike a traditional debate, this gathering is designed as a collaborative space for reflection, accountability, and vision-setting. Organizers describe the evening as a chance for community members to engage directly with candidates about the future they envision for Minneapolis—one rooted in care, clarity, and collective leadership.
What to Expect
The forum will open with a moderated discussion led by respected Black leaders and culture bearers, focusing on the issues that matter most to residents—from safety and housing to education, opportunity, and equity.
The evening will feature:
- Community-centered dialogue exploring the histories and ideas that shape Minneapolis neighborhoods.
- Artistic expression and cultural design by local Black creatives, transforming the Capri Theater into a space of resilience and joy.
- Vision-driven questions developed by and for the community, ensuring the discussion moves beyond campaign slogans toward meaningful solutions.
- Accessibility and inclusion, including language interpretation, visible timekeeping, and wellness accommodations so all voices can be heard and respected.
- Direct engagement, with opportunities for attendees to connect one-on-one with candidates during a post-forum tabling session.
AALF leaders emphasize that the event is part of a broader effort to strengthen civic participation and build sustainable power within Black communities across Minneapolis.
“We’re creating a space where accountability meets imagination,” organizers said. “This is about shaping the city’s direction together—not just watching it happen.”
The forum is free and open to the public, though registration is encouraged.
