Small businesses in WNC gear up for Black Friday’s Record Store Day celebrations

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Black Friday will once again kick off the holiday season, and while many consumers are heading out to big chain stores, News 13 is introducing you to small, unique businesses in western North Carolina throughout the holiday season, and as one local business reminds us, tomorrow is also Record Store Day.

Baby Rabiez is located in South Asheville and specializes in carrying unique items like toys, figurines, patches, and, of course, records.

They’re also one of a handful of stores in western North Carolina participating in Record Store Day.

The event cherished by music lovers finds local record shops stocking special, sometimes hard-to-find titles

Like many independent retailers, News 13 has spoken to tell us, Co-owner Mercy Delavega says, when people choose to shop local, that choice isn’t lost on them.

“When someone comes in here, and even if they just buy a patch or a drink, it makes all the difference in the world. Sometimes we’re sitting here going how are we going to pay our rent and people come in, and they’re so excited, that yes, we’re still worried about paying the rent, but it make such a difference to see people love the stuff that we love,” Delavega said.

Record Store Day kicked off in 2008 to help bring attention to physical record stores around the world.
