‘Passing of the torch’: The Black Cypress announces new owners in Pullman

Founder Nikiforos Pitsilionis announced The Black Cypress has new owners, calling them the perfect fit to carry the Pullman restaurant forward.

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Black Cypress, one of downtown Pullman’s best-known restaurants, is entering a new chapter under new ownership, according to an announcement posted by its founder on social media.

Founder Nikiforos Pitsilionis shared a heartfelt message thanking both past and current staff for helping guide the restaurant through the transition. He also expressed deep gratitude to the Pullman community for supporting The Black Cypress over the years.

In his post, Pitsilionis said the restaurant is now in the hands of Mike and Alison, who he described as “the perfect people to carry this place forward,” citing their “steadiness, care, and vision” as qualities that will help keep the restaurant’s long-standing spirit alive.

“It’s immeasurably heartening to know that the future of The Black Cypress will be in your hands,” Pitsilionis wrote. “It truly couldn’t have turned out better for us all.”

The founder also thanked community members who stepped in to help during the “home stretch” of the ownership shift, as well as longtime staff.

Details about what changes, if any, customers can expect moving forward have not yet been announced. However, Pitsilionis’ message suggests the restaurant’s identity and values will remain consistent as it moves into its next phase.
