“This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” says University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel in a statement last week announcing the firing of Sherrone Moore, the head football coach.
Moore, 39, apparently didn’t learn any lessons from the fall of Mel Tucker, another Black football coach whose career went down in flames two years ago at Michigan State University for similar conduct. Tucker blew away a $10 million-a-year contract, while Moore gave up a $5.5 million-a-year salary, all of which raises serious questions about the judgment of these men who once reigned at the top of college football with all the trappings of power.
