New charges filed against man accused of holding five people hostage Mishawaka


New charges have been filed against the man accused of holding 5 hostages during a SWAT situation in Mishawaka in December.

53-year-old Chad Bean has now been charged with 6 counts of Attempted Murder.

That’s in addition to the previous charges of criminal confinement, unlawful possession of a firearm and stalking.

It all stems from a police response to a home on Conner Drive on December 21st.

The St. Joseph County prosecutor’s office says Bean fired at officers 15 times and officers returned fire.

The officers’ actions were determined to be justified by the prosecutor’s office and said there was a reasonable fear of death or significant bodily injury.
