Jefferson School Foundation accepting submissions for Black History art exhibition

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The Jefferson School Foundation is accepting submissions for its upcoming art exhibition, ‘In the Sanctuary: A Celebration of Black History.’

“It is so important for us to continue to utilize the Jefferson School City Center as a gathering place,” said Kimberly Sheffield, director of community engagement with the Jefferson School Foundation. “What brings people better together than artistry and art?”

This year marks the first year of the exhibit. Submissions are open to all ages for 2-D artwork that celebrates Black History through creativity.

The Jefferson School Foundation’s submission guidelines said that submissions should reflect Black historical figures and heroes, cultural traditions, artistic contributions, themes of identity, resilience, unity, and empowerment, and interpretations of Black history and excellence.

Submissions for the exhibition are due by Friday, January 9.

Accepted artwork will be displayed at the Jefferson School City Center, with a reception celebrating the Artwork to be held on Friday, February 6.
